But I saw a few different recipes online suggesting apple sauce that left me with this basic cinnamon apple sauce recipe that worked like a charm and made our entire apartment smell like Christmas!
Do any of you have fun DIY ornaments you'd like to share? I'd love to see them!
Happy holidays friends!
Cinnamon Holiday Ornaments
Makes about 10 ornaments
1 cup cinnamon (or 2 3oz. shakers of cinnamon)
1 teapsoon nutmeg
1 cup plain apple sauce
Preheat oven to 200 degrees
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cinnamon and apple sauce and mix with a whisk or wooden spoon until completely combined. If the dough is still slightly sticky, add a little more cinnamon.
2. Lay out the dough on a piece of wax paper, flattening the ball so you can cover it with another piece of wax paper. Roll the dough out until it's roughly 1/4" thick and using your cookie cutters, make your desired shapes. Using a straw or a tooth pick, poke a hole in each ornament.
3. Set on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and bake for 2 hours or until hardened. Let cool for 30 minutes then thread with holiday string.
